Brief Job Description:
Wachesaw Plantation Club is located in a small community a few miles south of the Myrtle Beach area.  It is a hidden gem for the Myrtle Beach area.  The controller is responsible for all financial aspects of the Club.  Wachesaw is a 501 (c) 7 non-for-profit business.  Controller directs the finances of the Club and supervises the overall general accounting, budgeting, cost controls, and departmental budget variances.

Position Overview and Requirements:

  • Directs financial operations of the club.
  • Assist the GM and Treasurer on all strategic matters relating to budget preparation and management, cost-benefit analysis, forecasting needs and internal controls.
  • Prepare monthly financials and report the results to the GM and Club Treasurer.
  • Prepare Ad-Hoc reports as requested by GM, Board, and other committees.
  • Maintains all accounting records and evaluates the operating results for costs, revenues, budgets, policies of operations and trends.
  • Sends out a weekly P&L report to department heads.
  • Monthly operating statements, balance sheet, cashflow, member equity tracking.
  • Oversees accounts payable and accounts receivables, cash management, account reconciliation, petty cash, and bank deposits.
  • Reviews that all insurance records for club property are properly maintained.
  • Directs Capital budget planning and preparation including leasing, financing, reserves and replacement.
  • Directs, participates in, and verifies the taking of inventories for food and beverage operations.
  • Experience with Jonas is a distinct plus or the ability to learn and adapt quickly.
  • Ensures total compliance with all state and federal laws and related tax requirements.
  • Maintains compliance on all required club licenses.
  • Maintains monthly reconciliations for bank and credit card accounts.
  • Maintains upkeep of historical documents and records.
  • Responsible for direct work with the external auditors during annual audit in order to complete the audit in a timely manner.
  • Attends monthly Finance committee and Board meetings.
  • Oversees and manages accounting personnel.
  • Oversees and manages information technology with our outside IT consultant.
  • Supervises Club retirement plan.

Candidate Qualifications:

  • Controller will be a person of high integrity, character, and morals.
  • Club industry experience or solid background in the hospitality industry is required.
  • 5+ years of professional accounting experience with at least 3 of those years at the Controller/CFO level.
  • Expertise with Microsoft Office with extensive knowledge in Excel and spreadsheet usage.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Excellent numerical aptitude.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects at one time.
  • Experience in supervising personnel.
  • Excellent oral, written and presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • A person that is motivated, friendly, and customer service oriented.

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.

Beneficial, but Not Required:

  • CPA
  • Masters in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration
  • Auditing experience
