Charlotte, NC - On behalf of Champions for Education, the Wells Fargo Championship announced today over $1 million in donations to designated local charitable organizations as a result of this year's tournament.

Champions for Education is the non-profit organization which manages and operates the Wells Fargo Championship, Charlotte's premier PGA TOUR event.

This year, Champions for Education contributed to Teach For America Charlotte, Levine's Children's Hospital, Charlotte Mecklenburg YMCA, The First Tee of Charlotte and other Charlotte-area organizations that provided support to the tournament either throughout  the year or during tournament week. These included educational foundations, youth organizations, outreach programs and relief efforts.

In the past twelve years, Champions for Education has contributed over $17 million to charitable organizations.

“Wells Fargo celebrates the idea that little by little we can do a lot to build and strengthen our local communities,” said Kendall Alley, Wells Fargo Regional President in Charlotte. “We are proud to see this concept come to life every year with the financial donations Champions for Education and Wells Fargo are able to generate across the Charlotte region through the success of the Wells Fargo Championship.”

"Each year one of our key objectives is to make a positive impact in Charlotte and around the region and the ability to donate funds to area charity organizations is one avenue to do so, " said Kym Hougham, Executive Director of the Wells Fargo Championship. "We could not do this without the help of Wells Fargo, our corporate partners, volunteers and the devoted fans who have annually supported us the past twelve years."

The 2015 Wells Fargo Championship is scheduled for May 11-17.
