ACCOMMODATIONS

 

The Best Western Mountain Lodge at Banner Elk will serve as the Chapter’s host hotel for this event.  The hotel is located blocks from the downtown of Banner Elk at 1615 Tynecastle Highway, Banner Elk, NC 28604.

 

The Chapter has a room block set up at a rate of $152.50 for Saturday night and $81.17 for Sunday night. To make your reservation, please call 828-898-4571 and ask for the “Carolinas Chapter CMAA” group rate.  The room block will be released on Wednesday, August 10.

 

EDUCATION

 

Dann Harris

PROGRAM TITLE: “Find, Retain and Motivate the Best Employees”

 

SUMMARY: Dann intends to continue his leadership presentation that he started last October at the Fall Chapter Meeting at Quail Hollow Club.  Through a combination of role playing, potential case studies and working together, attendees will gain valuable tools helpful for finding, retaining and motivating the best employees.  Club Managers are only as good as the people around them and all three sessions will be interactive.  Please come prepared to participate and learn, and most importantly, take several great tools and ideas home.

SPEAKER INFORMATION:  Dann has more than 40 years of leadership and management experience. He has served as a Senior Vice President of Marketing and Sales for two financial services organizations and has started and owned three businesses. Dann consults, trains, coaches and mentors business owners, executives, and managers of companies of all sizes. He has developed many customized programs for organizations that have helped implement processes that lead to measureable behavioral changes at all levels of employees. Dann and his wife, Susie, have been married for 48 years and have helped many families through their marriage mentoring ministry. They have two children and five grandchildren. Dann is an excellent communicator and motivator who captures and holds the attention of others.

 

Keith Pabian

PROGRAM TITLE:  "Staffing Strategies with an International Flavor: Identifying, Acquiring and Keeping Seasonal Talent (Lawfully!)"

 

SUMMARY:  For private clubs in the Carolinas, it is amazingly almost time to start preparing your H-2B visa petitions for your 2017 season!  Despite the seemingly endless changes to the H-2B seasonal visa process over the past year, H-2B seasonal visas continue to be incredibly important to the private club industry.  Attorney Keith Pabian will present on visa options for private clubs, the role of H-2B visas in a private club’s staffing strategy as well as provide an update on where the H-2B visa process stands today, just about a year after the government revised the regulations governing this visa.

SPEAKER INFORMATION:  Keith Pabian is the Founding Partner of Pabian Law, LLC, an immigration law firm in Boston, Massachusetts that focuses on assisting employers through the visa and immigration process.  Keith has a unique specialization in representing seasonal businesses from coast to coast with a special focus on the private club industry.  Keith and his firm are very involved with the CMAA, National Club Organization, HFTP and their affiliated local chapters.  Keith has presented at numerous national conferences, local chapter meetings, and international webinars on immigration topics affecting the private club industry.

 

GOLF AND SUNDAY EVENTS

GOLF

For those interested, Zach Platek has arranged for a Shotgun Start at 2:00 pm.  Golfers will sample nine holes from  the Mountain Springs executive golf course, followed by the front side of the Championship Course.

 

SUNDAY DINNER/NETWORKING EVENT

Grandfather G & CC will be offering a fun evening of networking at their Dornie Lake Pavilion!  Dinner will include a variety of delicacies from their wood-burning pizza oven.  NC craft beers will be featured.  Cocktails and dinner begin at 7:00 pm.  Shuttle bus service from the Best Western Hotel in Banner Elk to and from Grandfather will be provided.
