Event and Speaker Information

Did you know Asheville was voted as the #1 Beer City in America by seriouseats.com and currently ranks among the top 10 in the country across other various pools? Like a breakdown of Jimmer Fredette’s college states, it’s impossible to NOT talk about Asheville’s size in a conversation about its beer scene. The Western North Carolina town clocks in around 83K (For comparison, beer titan Portland has over 600,000 fine beer drinkers in its environs.) but the teensy town has enough breweries to give it one of the largest per capitas in America.

On Monday, February 27th, join us at the Big Top Taproom as we hear from Adam Charnack, Co-Owner and Operator of Asheville’s own Hi-Wire Brewing.  Located a half a mile from the Biltmore Estate, Hi-Wire opened the 27,000 square foot Big Top Taproom & Production Facility in the summer of 2015. This Big Top brings the brewing process to life by giving craft beer drinkers the opportunity to enjoy a pint of Hi-Wire’s approachable and balanced ales and lagers beside the tanks where they were created.  This large, industrial-feeling space has a bier garden and is home to all of Hi-Wire’s large events.  Adam will be sharing his entrepreneurial journey; experiences, challenges, humor, and a bit about what’s next for Hi-Wire.

In a very short time, Hi-Wire Brewing has managed to seal its presence here in our local craft beer market.  With more than enough breweries to choose from, Hi-Wire maintains an exceptional level of creativity and uniqueness, represented both in flavorful recipes and hand-drawn bottle artwork.  Using a rapid-growth model from inception, they now have two locations and have recently expanded distribution into their fourth state.  In addition, Hi-Wire was awarded the most medals at the 2014 NC Brewer’s Cup and named Best New North Carolina Brewery of 2014 by RateBeer.

A note from Adam:

As is typical with small, growing companies, I wear 100 hats at Hi-Wire. The best way to describe my day-to-day responsibilities is that I’m working on finance, legal and internal communication, while my business partner concentrates more on our brand’s strategic future and logistics.  We jointly work on future strategic growth strategies.  I moved to Asheville full-time four years ago for, what was at the time, a dream job in commercial real estate development, working in affordable housing.  However, over the course of several nights of craft beer pints with my college roommate and, now, business partner, we both decided it was time to start our own business, as we had always talked about.  Both passionate about craft brewing and seeing the right opportunity at the right time, we dove in and worked towards opening Hi-Wire about three years ago.  For more information on our story, please visit www.hiwirebrewing.com.

Program Fee: $15
Fee includes education and light snacks.  There will also be a food truck at the brewery with food available for purchase on your own.
