Program Speaker:
Pete Mairs, owner of Barbary Fish Co, LLC is originally from New Smyrna Beach Florida. He grew up working on the docks in the summers of his high school years. In 1979, Pete moved to Wilmington to attend UNCW. Throughout college, he worked on the docks at Hieronymus Seafood on Airlie Rd. in Wrightsville Beach. Initially, he worked fishing offshore and processing the local catches for the retail store. Soon Pete ventured out and sold the local products in Myrtle Beach, Raleigh and Charlotte as well to local restaurants.

In 1990, The Hieronymus Brothers sold their waterfront location and Pete was in a position to take over the wholesale distribution business. Three years later, Hanover Packing and Cape Fear Fish would be doing over 3 million dollars in sales, servicing Harris Teeters, US Foods and over 200 restaurants throughout the Carolina's. Fast forward to 2009, Pete sold his business to a large food-service company based out of Atlanta. That merger lasted 5 years and now Barbary Fish is back doing what they do best. Fresh local fish delivered to the finest restaurants, hotels and Country Clubs along the Carolina Coast.

Program Summary:
Pete will be discussing the world of fresh seafood, including the challenges of working in an industry based on what you catch, the importance of sustainability, and how the Club industry is affected by this.
